Life in Rural Iowa

Life in rural Iowa is amazing—some months more than others. I was born and raised in Iowa, specifically just south of Ladora. The farm I live on now is where I grew up. I bought the house and nearly 10 acres from my mom in 2005 after my dad passed away. It's the same house my Grandma and Grandpa Root built in 1950, and my parents bought it in 1973. I'm proud to be the third generation to live in this house.

In July, it's fairly quiet here. My husband, Todd works a ton of hours (more on this in a future post). The garden is enjoying the rain followed by hot and humid weather. This year we have a smaller garden due to having a ton of carryover canned food from 2023. Peppers, sweet corn, tomatillos and a tomato plant for slicing tomatoes.

I'm planning to share a monthly photo gallery of our life here. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but I'll let you decide.
